This is an interesting and unusual stick dance with a reorientation of the set contained within each chorus. Tricia Kimber, a member of Fenstanton Morris, accidently came across a fragmant of a memory of this dance which was fortunately sufficient to jog the minds of some of the older villagers sufficient to allow this recreation of a performable version. The original title is unknown; the given title refers to the propensity for disorientation of the dancers during the performance of the rounds when they lose track of the "top" of the moving set!!
Tune:
Lilibulero - A.(A2B2)4
Sequence:
Normal common figures (FU/D; HG; CO; Rounds - take care; Hey)
Chorus
Two parts, reorientation of the set followed by sticking.
B1:
- Into line passing right shoulders with 4 single steps and facing alternate directions (as in Bampton on the Ridge)
- Double step and jump (with shout) landing so all face the center of the line with three facing down and three facing up the set -
1 3 5 2 4 6 |
2 1 4 3 6 5 |
2 1 4 3 6 5 |
- Then 2+1 sidestep left; 4+3 double step on spot; 6+5 sidestep to their left -thus:
2 1 |
4 3 |
6 5 |
- All double step on the spot once and then: 2+1/6+5 double step forward and feet-together-jump - 1 and 6 will have to turn around to face across at this pont (4+3 continue to step on the spot) to reform the set at 90 degrees to the original line
2 1 4 3 6 5 |
|
B2:
- Stick clashing overhead, the clashes are passed around the set thus -
- clash across twice R-L/L-R
- middles face right - and clash twice
- middles face left (turn out) and clash twice
- clash across again twice
- then repeat the sequence but middles face left first
